VEHICLE : Valiant Charger R/T E38 (Small-Tank)
CLIENTS OBJECTIVE : Complete Vehicle restoration
This genuine E38 Charger R/T has been brought to PP&R after being repaired by another shop which had been unfortunatley closed. As it turns out, the repairs completed were certainly not worthy of the car in question with some very ugly repairs. This E38 now sports a completely stripped bodyshell, displaying the poor repair areas. PP&R professionals are now completing panel manufacturing and bosy repairs will start shortly. If you're a Valiant Charger fan, watch this page as this promises to be one nice car.
02/08/09 : Below are images of this E38 after chemical body stripping. This car has been brought to us 'already repaired' by another shop and the low standard of these repairs really are not translated will in these photos. Poor quality welding, lap joints and bogged-over rust just to start. PP&R will be re-repairing all of these areas and more.
07/06/10 : More work than first anticipated but it's not a problem for the PP&R team. A new trunk floor panel and extension panels have been fabricated in-house for a complete OE-style repair. Note : All brackets removed for refitment after floor panel installation.
22/06/10 : The images below indicate previously 'repaired' areas which clearly display a large amount of rust behind the welded over plates. Once we have finished with these repairs they will be as good as new. Checkout the trunk floor panel repairs after completion.
14/07/10 : Although the front cowl (plenum chamber) rust seemed minor at first the decision was made to split the cowl panel for the betterment of the restoration. Doing so exposed an area of rust that simpy could not have been seen whilst contained into this normally unaccessible area. Now with complete access to the repair site, a new airbox vent rim has been fabricated and once sealed and reassembled will carry our guarantee that rust in this area will no longer be an issue.
These images also display the high level of lower vehicle repairs undertaken with complete sill panel, sill panel end and the completed door to wheel-arch panel repairs. Chassis rail reconstruction now complete.
21/07/10 : Below are some updated images of the cowl-panel (plenum) repair just before refitting the upper cowl panel.
24/09/10 : Complete cowl panel repairs. These repairs and our seamsealing rust prevention measures will ensure that a rusty cowl-panel is a thing of the past. Assembly of the outer cowl panel will see this E38's repairs finished. Pre-paint body repairs will start soon.
18/03/11 : Painted in production 'Hemi Orange'., prepped and ready for striping.
04/04/11 : War stripes finished ! Underbody preparation is complete with factory finish in mind.
