VEHICLE : Valiant VF Utility
CLIENTS OBJECTIVE : Tough Street Muscle-Car
Initially inhereted from another workshop, this ordinary VF Ute has been inspired by one of PP&R's previous restorations, Andrews Ute. Although many facets of this build may be similar, this will be a very different car. Boasting a 408 stroker small-block, a full hand fabricated alloy hardlid, 17'' Boyd Coddington billets and tubular front suspension system this plain-jane Ute is going to be somethign really special.
04/10/11 : We took this car from another workshop, poorly prepped body meant we needed to have the body-shell blasted. Fast track now a couple of months later and we have completed all the rust repairs, fabricated the rear custom roll-pan which really cleans up the back of the car. As with all these utes, they suffer from rust issues inside the rear window lower bulkhead. We tackled this repair by removing the entire original bulkhead and fabricating a new assembly. It was imperative that we kept in mind that this bulkhead would be a key component to the functioning operation of the alloy hardlid to come, both for hinges support and forward sealing. It came up perfect in the end, cleaning up what is a pretty ugly original piece.
Another key repair on this ute was the LH B-Pillar (Sailpanel). It was the victim of a poor previous repair that would have needed that much filler to get right that we chose to fabricate a completely new panel. Our in-house metal worker did a fantastic job an now complete looks completely original. Although there was no outside evidence of sill panel rust, we chose to replace the sill panels anyway. It was a good idea that we did as the inner sill panels were deteriorated badly. This Ute now sports our new-design fabricated wheel tubs, which I think look much cleaner than our previous fabricated tubes, featuring radiused corners. There's plenty more to come so keep an eye on this one....
